New Free West Papua artwork from the Netherlands
August 25, 2015
On Saturday, Free West Papua Campaign-Netherlands met with Dutch sculptor Mr E. Pietersen who recently made these two striking sculptures of West Papuan freedom fighters which are now on display in the Gemeente Museum, in the Hague.
Below is a video of Free West Papua Campaign-Netherlands meeting with Mr Pietersen at the Museum and playing him traditional Papuan songs.
Mr Pietersen said that the title of the exhibition was “fierce” and is very interested in indigenous peoples of which the West Papuan freedom struggle is a very important part. He therefore made these sculptors of West Papuan freedom fighters, up to their necks in the blood of their people and screaming for help. The symbols on top represent traditional headdresses.
He was thanked and presented with a Free West Papua T-Shirt by the Campaign and he proudly stated
“I wear this shirt not because of fashion, but because I fully support Papua Merdeka (Papuan Freedom).”
We are very grateful to Mr Pietersen for this great piece, spreading the message of the Free West Papua cause through art and we encourage all available artists around the world to use their skills to raise awareness and support for West Papuan freedom.
Through the medium of art, the Free West Papua message is spreading around the world!
